Sacred Lomi Lomi, or Hawaiian Temple Bodywork, is an ancient massage modality that originates from Hawaii and was a tradition passed down through the family.
For this style of massage, mostly forearm and palm glides are utilized to mimic the waves of the ocean washing ashore. They are fast, slow, shallow, deep, short, and long- continuously coming in and receding out
In Lomi Lomi, the whole body is worked on at the same time, as opposed to a more traditional massage where the muscles get worked on in groups or zones.
For example, one forearm glide may start at the bottom of the right ankle, go up the back of the right leg, over the right glute, up the right side of the back, over the top of the right shoulder, cross over to the left shoulder, down the left side of the back, down over the left glute, and down the back of the left leg all the way to the ankle.
This continuous flow increases the ocean wave-like effect of the glides and allows for the client’s mind to let go and sink into a deep state of relaxation.
It is Hawaiian philosophy that when the mind relaxes, the body will follow.
